Hair tips

I saw this article on web MD and had to share it on my blog! I have always lived by these tips and so can you.
Shampoo, Shampoo Everywhere -- But Which One's Right for Your Hair?
WebMD's sud-savvy guide to the wild and wacky ingredients listed on shampoo labels.
By Liesa GoinsWebMD the Magazine - Feature
Reviewed by Karyn Grossman, MD
Price alone won't lead you to your shampoo soul mate:
A Consumer Reports study of 1,700 ponytail samples that had been washed with a range of products found that none of the expensive brands produced better results than drugstore options. Only trial and error can truly lead you to the right formula. "Whether it's $2 or $20, you just have to try it to see if a shampoo will work for you, says Ni'Kita Wilson, a cosmetic chemist for Cosmetech Laboratories in New Jersey.
But understanding shampoo-speak can help you stop pouring money down the drain. Here's a guide to the ingredients you'll find on the bottle:
Surfactants: alkyl monoglyceride, alkyl sulfosuccinate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, cocamidopropyl, cocamide DEA or MEA or TEA, cocamidopropyl betaine, distearyldimonium chloride, lauramide DEA, olealkonium chloride, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium lauryl ether sulfate, tetrasodium EDTA
These are the cleaning power in shampoos. Often derived from coconut oil, palm kernel oil, or soybean oil, these cleansers lift the dirt, styling products, and scalp flakes that tend to stick to the sebum your scalp produces. Their unique molecular structure allows surfactants to surround oily substances so they can be rinsed away by water, Wilson explains.
Conditioners and moisturizers: amine oxide, citric acid, fatty alcohols (cetyl, oleyl, or stearyl alcohol), glycerin, isopropyl palmitate, lanolin, panthenol, polyquaternium, silicones, sodium dihydroxide, stearalkonium chloride
If surfactants are the workhorses, conditioners are the show ponies. These agents stay behind on strands. Some flatten the hair cuticle so hair feels smoother. Others deposit a lightweight coating for a silky texture, which aids in detangling.
Preservatives: DMDM hydantoin, guar, imidazolidinyl urea, iodopropynyl, isothiazolinone, sodium benzoate
"You need preservatives unless you want your shampoo to eventually walk out of the bathroom on its own, Wilson says. Many ingredients in the bottle are organic and can grow mold, fungus, yeast, and bacteria.
Other shampoo ingredients: alpha hydroxy acids, antioxidants, natural oils, proteins, vitamins
Hair is a dead fiber, so ingredients that work on skin won't have any prolonged benefit to your strands, Wilson says. Proteins will act as effective conditioners, but the benefits only last till your next shampoo -- they won't repair or restore hair.
What's the Best Shampoo for You?
Want to know the shampoo that will work best for your hair type? Here's what to look for on the label.
Oily hair: Astringents like tea tree oil, citrus oil, rosemary, sage, stinging nettle, and chamomile will help soak up oil in the follicle. Clear shampoos are often a better choice because they contain fewer conditioners that can leave a greasy residue.
Fine hair: Look for panthenol and other volumizing ingredients that help swell the hair shaft and proteins that adhere to individual strands to make them thicker.
Dry hair: The thick, opaque formulas are usually higher in rich moisturizers including nut oils, shea butter, and wheat germ oil that are especially good at bonding to parched strands.

Tip # 2 BROWN SUGAR & OLIVE OIL BODY SCRUB

Give yourself a body scrub with products right out of your cupboard. All you need is brown sugar and olive oil!

Take about 1/2 of a cup of brown sugar and about 1/3 cup of olive oil. Make sure that you do this treatment inside of the shower or bath tub because it's very messy. take a small handful of the mixture and gently massage it on you body as you would body lotion. Once your done rinse off in the shower. It will leave your skin feeling so soft, you'll think that you just walked out of a spa! In fact I used to charge customers $60 at the day spa I worked at for the exact treatment. You can do the same with sea salt! But I like the brown sugar better because it doesn't sting if you have cuts, burns or extra dry skin. Also you can shave your legs right after you rinse the scrub off. It leaves your legs so smooth & soft.

Tip # 1

Would you like to look slimmer?
Try an outfit like this. The gathering of the shirt around her waistline shows off her figure.
The length hides her tummy and gives her a long lean apperannce. (by the way these are plus sizes. anybody can pull this off.) The bootcut leg and high waistline will give you that slimming length. Espicially if you have short legs.

MERCHANDISE YOUR CLOSET!

I know You might be thinking That “merchandising your closet” is a weird sentence” But it makes sense. A nicely merchandised store is appealing to your eye! It's not overwhelming, and it makes it nice to look through things. If your closet is merchandised like a boutique of you! It will be a great place to peruse through. Here are some tips to try!
  • FIRST-Go through your entire closet. You can even take everything out so,you'll have a clean slate to start with.
  • SECOND-Separate your clothing into sections.

-out of season

- Dress clothes(pants ,shirts, jackets, sweaters )dresses,skirts

-camisoles

-clothes that you haven't worn in over 1 year.

-casual clothes-sweaters, long sleeve T's, short sleeve t's.

  • THIRD -Do the same thing with you shoes, bags, scarfs (if they're in your closet)
  • FOURTH-Now that you have that done Put your camisoles in a place where they're all together (If you want to get really organized separate them by color keeping each color family together from lightest to darkest. Pick an area thats easy to get to for your casual shirts and pants. Put t shirts together. Long sleeve T's, sweaters etc. Do the same thing for for your dress clothes and your dresses.
  • FIFTH-Think about the items that you never wear pile! How much does that stuff mean to you? If you don't wear it and haven't in over a year. Get rid of it! It just takes up unnecessary space.
Put the items that are out of season in storage or keep them in the back of your closet. Your not going to need them for awhile so they don't need to be right up front!

you can do this little by little or make it a day project! Either way life will seem so much easier and playing dress up will be fun again.

NAILS

Nails can be a beautiful asset to your body! In todays day and age you don't have to go to a salon to have nice nails. Although it's nice to be pampered! If you can't afford it don't worry! Here's some ways to keep them looking nice on your own!

1.REMOVING CUTICLE RESIDUE

You can do this in the shower or tub by scrubbing them with a nail brush and pushing your cuticles back. Or you can soak them in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes. The warm water softens the cuticle that's ready to come off.
Soak your hands in a small bowl of olive oil for 2 minutes. you can add some lemon juice or aroma therapy oil to change the scent if you want. This will help ragged cuticles and brittle nails become more resilient.

1.BEFOR PAINTING

File and buff your nails.(It's best to file your nails going in one direction. ) Wipe them clean with alcohol or nail polish remover. If you have any oils on your fingers the nail polish won't stay on very well.

2.PAINTING

Low Maintenance
Add a nail strengthener. This will add some shine on your new fresh nails and they'll stay shiny for days. Using a light color or clear is a nice low maintenance look too

Medium Maintenance-
Add nail strengthener as your base coat and two coats of color with a coat of clear. Apply a clear coat every day! That is if you want them looking nice for more than a day.

High Maintenance
acrylic nails. You have to get a fill every 2-3 weeks but they look great and if your a nail biter this might be a great solution for you.

EYE MAKE-UP TIP

EYELINER

  • To make your eyes pop try a blue eye liner on your top lid and a golden brown on the bottom lid. This will make them pop especially if their blue. Any colors will work. Pull it together with mascara on the top lid.

  • Invest in an eye liner brush. It makes the biggest difference, and you can use eyeshadow as eye liner with this brush.

MASCARA

  • To make your lashes look longer and fuller, I like Estee Lauders lash primer and Lancomes Definicils mascara. Apply lash primer to front and back of lashers on the top lid. Give it 30 seconds to a minute to set I usually apply blush or something while I'm waiting.

  • When applying your mascara start at the base of your lashes on the outside corner and brush all of your lashes moving toward your inner eye. I wouldn't reccomend more that two coats of mascara. If you don't like a lot of mascara just applying it on the outer corner of you eyelid, will make a big difference.

  • If you get mascara on your eyelid or face don't be so quick to wipe it off. If you just let it dry you can scratch it off . This way you don't have to worry about smearing.

  • Other Mascara's that I like and why.

I like Definicils by Lancome because the brush grabs your lashes, the way a brush should. And the formula stays on all day. It doesnt smear and it washes of easly. ($23)

I also like Lash Blast by Cover Girl. To me it has a similar effect as Lancome but the tube doesnt seem to last as long. ($8)

JEANS AND PANTS

THESE ARE CALLED "MOM JEANS" DON'T DO IT!!!
THESE ARE HIGH WAISTED AND WORK FOR ANY AGE! AND THE'RE NOT "MOM JEANS!"

Here's a guide to figure out what to wear with certain cuts of jeans, and which cuts will work for your body type.

BOOT CUT-Boot cut pants look great with a pair of High heels and a feminin top,If your not a high heel kind of girl I wouldn't recommend this type of pant for you. (Tucking in your shirt will make you look long and lean.)

WIDE LEG-With wide-legs jeans, it's important to have the right top to balance the very unique jean cut. A cropped jacket or a tight top will make you look sexy instead of slouchy. Shoe-wise, wear flats. Don't let the shoes take away from the jeans. Unless you have short legs like me wear a simple heel so the bottoms don't drag.

SKINNY-For the ultra sleek skinny jeans, wear a jacket that falls below the hip but before the knees and pair high heels. Heels really help to pull the "skinny" look off and make your legs look sky high. A button-up shirt that is tucked in along with a slim belt will also help you look like a supermodel in skinny jeans. Flats look great too.

BAGGY-If you're a fan of loose-fitting, comfy jeans, make sure you balance out the "boyish" look of the jeans with a feminine T-shirt or fitted button-up shirt. These jeans go best with sneakers.

STIRRUP JEANS-are coming back into style! These jeans are pretty much made for wearing with almost knee-high boot. Stirrups stop the denim from bunching up underneath the boots.

"JEANS FOR YOUR BODY TYPE"

IF YOU'VE GOT A BOOTY-Don't be ashamed, don't try to hide it! Butts are in! Try to avoid low rise jeans! It's miserable having your crack hanging out everytime you bend over,or sit.

PEAR SHAPED BODY-A slightly flared leg looks great on women with a pear-shaped body. The slight flare helps to balance out the proportions of the hips.

PETITE-stay away from capris that are cut too short-they'll only make your legs look shorter. Instead, opt for capris that skim just above your ankles.

Clothing

  1. BODY TYPE-Different types of clothing fit different body types! Just because it's cute on the hanger doesn't mean it's cute on your body type, always try clothing on, if possible bring a pair of high heels,so you can get the true look.

  2. COLORS-Consider your skin tone, hair color and eye color, when shopping. Some colors look horrible on certain skin tones.

  3. PRINTS-When buying an item that has a lot of print or color make sure that you have something solid to go with it. Otherwise you can have too much pattern

  4. LAYERS-Adding layers can change everything about your look. You can use a jacket, necklase, scarf, belt, tank top, etc.
